Performance & Writing
Amy Jo came to performance through the spoken word scene in the 90s. She slammed at Lollopalooza and many local venues, making her place on the stage via written word. As a performing artist, Amy Jo addresses issues of sexuality, gender and the body, challenging her audiences to think more deeply about identity, and gender & sexual norms. Amy Jo performed as a drag king in the late 90s as “Nikki Silver” and hosted many drag cabarets in downtown NYC. Amy Jo was an active member of New York City’s WOW Café Theatre collective for a number of years, where she produced her one-woman show What is Said, What Goes Unspoken in 1998, and her play Vulvalution: Her Lips Speak in 1999. She performed her one-woman show HoneyToes Makes a Scene at Queer@HERE 2004 and at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s Women’s Performance Festival in 2005. In 2005, she took a hiatus from her performing art to devote her artistic energy to At Your Cervix, which is currently in post-production.
